Sending flowers to someone in the hospital is a great way to cheer them up and show them that you care. Fresh flowers can give great aroma and bring a special brightness to the hospital room and even help reduce stress!
Before you place your flower order to any hospital there are a few things to know. Most hospitals have regulations on delivery fresh flowers, and may not allow delivery of latex balloons at all. The first step is to call the hospital and verify where the patient is. Most hospitals will not allow fresh flowers if the patient is in a specific area, ie. intensive care, burn unit etc. If the patient is in one of these areas, you may only be able to deliver such items as mylar balloons or stuffed animals. In order to get fresh flowers or plants to the patient, you will likely have to wait until the patient is assigned a regular room.
1. Call the hospital, to confirm the patients location and room # at the hospital. You will also need to verify if the the patient is still admitted, and if or when they are expected to be released. It's not uncommon for news to travel slow to family and friends, and the patient may actually be released by time the florist gets the flowers to the hospital.
2. If the patient is a restricted area and can not receive fresh flowers or plants, ask the hospital if they can receive plush animals, silk flowers, or mylar balloons (instead of latex).
Recommendations for Placing Your Hospital Flower Order
Search the net for a local flower flowershop that delivers to the hospital. If your unsure of what to order, call the florist directly. Make sure they have a local phone # and address posted on their website to assure they are indeed a local florist near the hospital. If the flowershop is indeed a local florist near the hospital, the florist will likely be able to advise you on your flower selection. For example, most hospital rooms have limited space and shelves for displaying the flower arrangements or plants. It's probably a good idea to request a one-sided flower arrangement that can be positioned close to a wall, small shelf or window sill. This will also allow you to get an arrangement that appears larger in size with an increased perceived value! If you expect the patient to be taking the flower arrangement home, request the the florist leave a travel box so that the flowers can be conveniently transported home without damaging them. Another good idea is to request a stuffed plush animal or mylar balloons. Most hospitals will not allow latex balloons due to latex related allergies, but usually don't have restrictions on delivering plush animals or mylar balloons.
